About the Project
Houston Community College's West Houston Institute is a 144,200-square-foot facility featuring state-of-the-art amenities to support science, technology, and engineering curriculum. The building includes classrooms, group learning rooms, teaching innovation labs, computer rooms, IT support area, K-12 and community engagement space, allied health space, MakerSpace, learning commons, and a conference center. The teaching innovation lab transforms teaching from the bottom up through advanced learning space and technology for experimentation. The MakerSpace is a unique facility that gives K-12 students a chance to become engaged in innovation, design thinking, entrepreneurship, and arts through a variety of workshops, camps, and competitions. The space provides the tools for students and teachers to collaborate together to create manufactured works with hands-on project-based learning opportunities. The West Houston Institute possesses all of the tools to create intersections and networks of learning and innovation.
